Since 1886, Avon has been improving the lives of women globally, and through our mission of empowerment, we have been inspiring women to achieve their dreams. To celebrate our 125th Anniversary, Avon is inviting people everywhere to join the Avon Voices Singing Talent Search and Songwriting Competition—a worldwide movement to unite and inspire through the universal language of music.
Everyone Is Invited
Avon Voices encompasses our first-ever global online Singing Talent Search, open exclusively to women, and a Songwriting Competition, open to both women and men. Avon Voices will officially launched on December 1, 2010, during press events with Avon Chairman and CEO Andrea Jung; Fergie, six-time Grammy winner; and Diane Warren, legendary songwriter. It’s the perfect way to kick off Avon’s 125th Anniversary celebration.
December 1 also marks the date that entrants for the Singing Talent Search can begin submitting videos of their songs, through the Avon Voices Web site at www.AvonVoices.com. The site will also feature tips and video messages from celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Fergie, online voting and official contest rules.
Everyone is invited to be a part of the Avon Voices global community, spanning more than 60 countries all over the world. The Singing Talent Search is open to any woman in a participating country who’s at least 18 years of age—both Representatives and members of the general public are eligible to enter. Both women and men (who are at least age 18, and in participating countries) are invited to join the Songwriting Competition. And everyone, ages 13 and over, will be encouraged to vote online for their favorites in the Singing Talent Search!
Talent Search and Songwriting Competition
The Singing Talent Search will accept video submissions between December 1, 2010, and February 13, 2011,* through AvonVoices.com. After going through three rounds of competition, the finalists will be flown to New York City for individual coaching, styling sessions, Avon makeovers, rehearsals and in-studio recordings from October 27–November 3, 2011. They’ll perform live at the Avon Foundation for Women Gala, also held in New York City, on November 2, 2011. The finalists will join together with Avon Voices celebrities to sing and record the Avon Voices Anthem, an original song written by Diane Warren, one of the world’s most prolific songwriters. The “Avon Voices Anthem” will be available for purchase, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to the Avon Foundation for Women for its Global Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls. Of these finalists, up to two will then be selected—one Representative and one from the general public—as global winners of the Avon Voices Singing Talent Search!
In the Songwriting Competition, Avon is looking for original songs of three to four minutes (up to three songs can be submitted separately) that inspire or share hope and optimism, for the winners of the Singing Talent Search to sing. Submissions can be made from May 20–July 1, 2011,* at AvonVoices.com, and up to 10 winners will be announced on September 8, 2011. The winners may be offered a music publishing contract and also, their winning songs may be performed by one of the Singing Talent Search finalists, and may also appear on a professionally produced album!
While the singing submissions will be voted on online, both the singing and the songwriting submissions will also be judged by several high-profile musical celebrities. These include singer/songwriter Fergie, legendary songwriter Diane Warren and musical director David Pack. Other celebrity judges will also be involved—they’ll be announced during the December 1 press event that officially begins the competition.
Since 1955, Avon has had a proud history of philanthropic endeavors through the Avon Foundation, and Avon Voices continues that tradition. Our 125th year is a real opportunity to commemorate and bring joy to women around the world. We want to celebrate, and Avon Voices is an exciting and unique opportunity to put some fun into the business, while also creating goodwill.
